Kishu Koyasan Yokobue-no-Kai Online Salon

Rooted in the sacred mountains of Koyasan, this online salon is a cultural space where a Buddhist priest shares the living practice of prayer.
Rather than offering “spiritual services,” we explore prayer as a cultural tradition—shaped by land, lineage, and daily practice.
Prayer is not merely a means to fulfill personal wishes.
It is a way of attuning oneself to the seasons, the land, and the quiet turning points of life.
Through this process, prayer naturally expands from the individual toward the wider world.
This salon serves as a small, contemplative room where that transformation can be shared.

Prayer that Reaches Beyond Japan

My practice is not confined to Koyasan.
Prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple, pilgrimages in Bhopal and Sanchi,
and a lecture at the India International Centre in Delhi
have all shaped the way my prayer now moves outward—
from the personal to the global.
In this salon, I share the cultural and spiritual background of these journeys,
along with the subtle textures and insights encountered along the way.
Prayer as Cultural Practice
Personal prayers and healing rituals are offered not as commodities,
but as part of a long-standing cultural heritage.
They remain one expression of a broader practice that sustains the culture of prayer itself.
Online prayer requests are also available when needed.

Pilgrimage and Retreats

Memorial pilgrimages in Koyasan and goddess retreats
are expressions of prayer’s second chapter—
a movement from the inner life toward the world.
Walking with the land, we listen to the quiet depth that arises from it.
For Those Seeking Quiet Support
Concerns about health, relationships, family, or life transitions
are held with care and without judgment.
While counseling is not the center of this salon,
gentle support is offered as part of the wider culture of prayer.

 English Profile
About Myosen

Myosen is a Buddhist priest based in Koyasan,
dedicated to cultivating prayer as a living cultural practice.
Her work explores how prayer gently aligns one’s life—
not as a tool for wish‑fulfillment,
but as a quiet way of opening toward the wider world.
Her practice has naturally expanded beyond Japan,
through prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple,
pilgrimages in Bhopal and Sanchi,
and a lecture at the India International Centre in Delhi.
Before becoming a priest, she spent 23 years in Tokyo
as a nonfiction writer, giving voice to human stories of resilience and hope.
This background shapes her current work,
where prayer and language meet as cultural expression.
She holds a master’s degree in Esoteric Buddhism from Koyasan University
and has completed traditional Shingon training, including Shido Kegyo and Denbo Kanjo.
As the founder of Kishu Koyasan Yokobue‑no‑Kai,
she offers cultural programs, pilgrimages, and retreats
that share the quiet depth and clarity of Koyasan’s spiritual heritage.

About the Amulets (As a Cultural Practice of Prayer)

Based on the prayer traditions of Koyasan,
I also offer amulets crafted with fragrant materials.
These are not items for wish‑fulfillment,
but small ritual objects that invite the presence of prayer into daily life.
The background of the prayer itself cannot be imitated,
and they are quietly given only to those who truly need them.

Although Myosen serves primarily as a Buddhist priest,
one of her distinctive practices is the preparation of sacred talismans (reifu).
These talismans are created through traditional methods rooted in ancient Shinto studies,
and are crafted as a way to “give form” to prayer.
They are offered only to those who truly need them,
often in harmony with the fire ritual (goma) to carry its blessing into daily life.
Unlike fortune‑telling or modern spiritual trends,
these talismans are part of a long-standing cultural tradition of prayer,
prepared quietly and with great care.

To bring the spirit of Koyasan into everyday life,
I offer a range of distance-learning programs.
Through sutra copying, mandala coloring, and scratch-art practice,
you can cultivate “prayer through the hands”
— a quiet, meditative way to center the mind at home.
Each program is designed to nurture prayer as a living cultural practice.
Many participants find these gentle, steady rituals
to be a source of calm and clarity in their daily lives.
